The un-democratic party strikes again
On the eve of a book release about the obfuscation of Joe Biden's mental acuity, new questions arise about whether Democrats hid his physical diagnosis
Joe Biden has cancer and the Democratic Party does, too. Joe’s doctors say his cancer is responsive to hormones and potentially treatable, but the malady the Democratic Party faces is malignant.
Before this column gets flamed, let me make a necessary disclosure: there’s no understating the trauma involved in finding out your body is trying to kill you, and I’m praying for the former President’s stamina, and for his doctors’ judgement. I’ve been there and I have the empathy only a survivor knows.
The likelihood that Biden and at least a few people in his circle knew he had a prostate problem during the 2024 campaign seems quite high. Former Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump all posted their test results for PSA, the indicator of a prostate problem, after their annual physicals, but Biden did not. Some doctors are suggesting maybe Biden didn’t get a PSA test due to his advanced age. Even if that’s true, don’t expect many people to buy it. Why?
It is now obvious to everyone with an IQ above 80 that the Biden team willfully lied to us about Biden’s cognitive health, and they successfully enlisted their media sycophants to gaslight the entire country to not believe their lyin’ eyes.
Since my CNN colleague Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson began making the rounds for their new book, Original Sin, which is released today, the extant media focus has been on the White House deceiving everybody about Biden’s health. But to be clear, they were not deceiving anybody. We all saw Biden wandering aimlessly off stages, into bushes, shaking hands with the air. We read as a sober special prosecutor, Robert Hur, told us he was a few bricks shy of a full load.
Nobody was confused or misled or deceived. We were defied.
The leaders of the Democratic Party just defied the facts, the truth, and the will of the public – which was clearly expressed in poll after poll in 2023 and 2024 showing a majority thought Biden in no shape to run again.
The power brokers of the Democratic Party – and most working journalists in Washington and New York - were unwilling to take no for an answer, however, and deliberately tried to shove the edifice of a left-wing government with Biden as its doddering but inoffensive figurehead down our throats. Why? Take your pick from the potential answers:
they were afraid that an unelectable Kamala Harris would replace him,
they were afraid that another open Democratic Primary would result in a stampede to a truly loony nominee,
they liked the hard-core liberal policy they were passing under the old man’s nose every day and couldn’t look up long enough to stop.
Having rigged the nomination process to hustle in their most normie candidate in 2020, after he’d won the only primary suited to him in South Carolina, the Democratic Party got comfortable existing without the democratic part.
The liberal elites had a chance to dispose of Joe Biden politically in January of 2024 when he faced Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) in the New Hampshire primary. Phillips had proven himself professionally as a business owner, proven himself politically by knocking off a Republican incumbent in a swing suburban congressional district, and proven his appeal internally by climbing the House Democratic Caucus leadership ladder. His resume was sufficient.
Phillips’ entire campaign message was that Biden was too old and infirm to win a second term. He engaged in no ideological apostasy to make him unacceptable to liberals. He merely challenged the internal power structure’s shell game. His jeremiad in retrospect was poignant six months before the disastrous debate in June when Biden did everything but lose control of his bowels on stage. A month out from the New Hampshire first-in-the-nation primary, he warned:
“I think his weakness predated my entrance,” Phillips said. “By exposing him now, is that not a service to the Democratic Party? Because he’s going to be exposed on a much more difficult stage in a number of months if he becomes the nominee.”
Yet, still Phillips was disregarded by the Democratic brass and a sympatico media. CNN’s headline derided his “chaotic and increasingly negative campaign.” Phillips got “blackballed” by MSNBC and was not interviewed even once on the Democrats’ favorite network from announcing his campaign in October until mid-January. An exasperated Phillips, who’d already gotten run out of the House leadership for having the temerity to ask hard questions, pointed the finger squarely at the Democratic operatives surrounding not only Biden, but the rest of the party’s constellation and the press.
“I’m disappointed. I’m disgusted that professionals who ostensibly have committed their entire careers to sharing truth and to providing facts and to sharing information with American voters … are fundamentally avoiding their responsibilities.”
Today, Phillips is questioning the timing of Biden’s cancer announcement, as many Republicans are, and it’s a hard question we all should be willing to ask. The answer is not hard to discern. Democrats have rationalized to themselves that Trump is so awful, so offensive to their NPR sensibilities, so, ya know, Hitler-y, that lying, cheating, stealing and short-circuiting democracy is their patriotic duty. They’re that deranged.
Keep in mind their mechanism to replace Biden once he dropped in 2024 was not to award the nomination to the person who had received the second-most primary votes – Phillips – or by having another quickie primary or even an old-fashioned convention floor fight. Those answers were way too democratic. Instead, they bowed to fear that women’s groups and black groups would go beserk if anyone except Kamala Harris was anointed in an undemocratic way to lead the Democratic party.
These predilections track with other symptoms of the malignant party malady these days. When faced with poll numbers showing Americans distrust them on our border crisis, they elevate a likely gang member as a case study. When Americans tell them they’ve gone too far in letting biological males play girls’ sports, they vote in lockstep to keep it legal.
Giving up being small-d democratic is a malignant habit that’s hard to break – even if it’s the name of your party.
