When we start seeing Republicans fund the creation of new voting places as you posit, instead of shutting them down to make voting more difficult for certain Americans, then I can agree with you in principle. Simple rule - guarantee at least one voting location within x miles of every y number of citizens. And, why the machinations of changing holidays which will still limit the participation of a lot of working ppl for whom it would still be a workday regardless? There’s no magic to “Tuesday next after the first Mon.” We should change federal law to schedule a nationwide voting weekend e.g., Sat 8 am-Sun 8 pm, to provide the most access to the most people.

To your first point - I will gladly push for more $ for polling places in a grand compromise to end early voting forever - but it must be forever. I do accept it will cost more.

We can make it a true national holiday, like Christmas, where very few people work, and with 20 hours of voting, no work shift would overlap the whole time. My entire premise is that we should all be willing to make accommodations in our life to vote. Voters who aren't willing to fit it in, if we have close abundant precincts and long hours are probably not bringing that much to the effort. As for Tuesday, it's been that way since 1845 and tradition is a good thing. It also enables families to talk about the election over the final weekend, consult friends at worship services, and then sleep on their choice. That still feels right to me. I'm not for overnight voting at all - I'm scarred by a few bad experiences with overnight counting.
